FAQ's

  • The minimum riding ability required is mastery of the basic aids, ability to post to the trot for stretches of 10 minutes at a time, to be comfortable at all paces and to be able to gallop out of trouble. It is a great advantage if you are a fit and proficient rider.

  • The team in Kenya have a wide variety of mounts ranging from African Homebreds, Percheron crosses and even some appaloosas - all well versed in safari life and extremely capable and sure footed.

  • On moving days we can travel up to 30km to set up a new camp - the Mara safari has 3 moving days where camp willl be set in different spots. On non move days the rides will be shorter with the opportunity of game drives to get up close and personal with some of Kenyas big cats.

  • The Masai Mara is one of the inspirations for the Lion King film - with northern Kenya being where it was set. The mara is teeming with wildlife and extremely diverse, with wide open plains allowing for faster canters, awe inspiring escarpments and even crossing the might Mara river by horseback under the careful watch of Gordie on the lookout for Hippo.

  • All rides are lead by qualified professional guides. Safety is our priority. All camps and vehicles have radio communication and guides ride with a hand held radios. A demonstration is given at the beginning of the safari with a talk on how to handle big game situations. Should an accident happen all guests are registered with a helicopter evacuation service which can get you to a hospital within 20 minutes.
